Obituary for Wayne Rutland
Wayne Rutland, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, age 97, passed away on August 8, 2018. He and his identical twin Wade were born on September 14, 1920 in Bend, Texas to Cecil Roy Rutland and Lena (Cate) Rutland. Their mother died due to complications from child birth, and the twins were raised by their mother’s family.
After moving around while living with different family members during his childhood, he came to Stockdale as a teenager with his aunt and uncle when his uncle became the preacher for the Stockdale church of Christ. He graduated from Stockdale High School and later served in WW2 in the Pacific theatre in the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Marshall Islands invasion and later served on the island of Guam. After the war, he came back to Stockdale for a life of farming and ranching, raising a family with his wife Imogene. They were married for over 52 years before her death in 2000. He then remarried to Natta Jo Wilhite in 2001. He was a member of the Stockdale church of Christ and had long been active in teaching and in prison ministry. He also traveled with his wife Jo on several mission trips to Belize and to Africa.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Imogene (Foreman) Rutland, and brother, Wade Rutland and wife Betti.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Jo; son Randy Rutland and his wife Lynn of San Antonio, Texas; son Perry Rutland and his wife C.J. of Stockdale, Texas; daughter Danna Roane and her husband Warren of Humble, Texas; and son Billy Rutland and his wife Debbie of Stockdale, Texas; step-daughter Becky Iverson and her husband Fred of North Charleston, South Carolina; step-daughter Teri Lemm and her husband Ed of Spring, Texas; step-son Todd Wilhite and his wife Alyssa of Tyler, Texas; and step-son Mark Wilhite and his wife Emily of Nashville, Tennessee; in addition, he is survived by 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Friday, August 9, 2018, at Stockdale Church of Christ. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm, Saturday, August 10, 2018, at Stockdale Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Stockdale Cemetery.
