Obituary for Evelyn Schwanke (Ables)

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Evelyn Ables Schwanke passed away peacefully on March 27, 2017 at the age of 87, with family at her side. She was born on May 1, 1929 in Wilson County, Texas to Owen S. and Addie Stadler Ables. After graduating from from Stockdale High School, she moved to San Antonio, Texas and began her career. She was known for her honesty, work ethic, and loyalty; retiring at the age of 79. Her favorite pastimes included spending time with family, vacationing at the beach and dancing at the Roaring 20’s and The Farmer’s Daughter. In December of 2015, she moved back to Floresville to be near family. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Edward Ables; and sister, Helen Ables Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Linda O’Neill and husband Michael of Floresville, Texas; grandchildren, Tiffany O’Neill Huff and husband Aaron of Wimberley, Texas and Michael O. O’Neill of Austin, Texas; great-grandchild, Levi Huff; numerous cousins and friends. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Floresville Residence and Rehabilitation and the staff of Nurses in Touch Hospice for their devotion and care. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Finch Funeral Chapel, 400 S. Fourth Street, Stockdale, TX 78160. Funeral Service will be officiated by Jerry Watson on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., also at Finch Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers will be Richard Stadler, Tom Stadler, Wayne McCoy, and Larry McCoy. Interment will follow at Stockdale Cemetery.
