Obituary for Edith S Akin (Smith)

Edith Smith Akin, 102, of Stockdale, passed away October 23, 2018. She was born December 3, 1915, in Wilson County, TX, to the late Andrew Wesley Smith and Clara Reed Smith. Edith married Ted Earl Akin in San Antonio on May 19, 1934. She owned and operated a floral shop for 19 years in Stockdale. Edith was a member of the Eastern Star #69, Blue Bonnet Club, and American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years who passed away February 10, 2011; parents; and sons, Ronald Ray Akin and Ted Smith Akin.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Childress (Larry) of Stockdale; grandchildren, Ted Brent Akin of Schertz, Brad S Akin (Leslie) of New Braunfels, Lance Childress (Jennifer) of San Antonio, Larianne Hastings (David) of Coppell and Luke Childress of Austin; great-grandchildren, Stephenae Harrington (Jake), Ted Dawson Akin, Matthew Akin, Claire Akin, Emma and Holden Childress, Canyon and Revel Hastings; numerous nieces and nephews.

On Friday, October 26, 2018, a visitation will be held from 5:30–8:00pm at First Baptist Church in Stockdale. The funeral service will be Saturday at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church in Stockdale and officiated by Brother Scott Jones and Rev Maurice Smith. Interment will follow at Stockdale Cemetery.
