Obituary for Elroy C Alex Sr.

On Tuesday, October 23, 2018, Elroy Caesar Alex, Sr., went home to be with his Saviour at the age of 74. Elroy was a wonderful man that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Our “Pepaw,” as he liked to be called by his grandchildren, was an amazing husband, dad, son, and brother.

Elroy’s story starts on February 01, 1944, the youngest child of Caesar Emil and Meta Sophie Harms Alex. He was born in Nordheim, Texas and along with his two sisters, Doris Ann Stewart and Wilma Lee Zdansky, lived on a farm in Cotton Patch, Texas. He first attended school in Yorktown, and then at the age of 12, his family moved to Victoria, Texas where they planted their roots.

At just 15 years old, he met the love of his life, Joyce Ann Hare and made her his wife on October 27, 1962 in the Bloomington Assembly of God Church. They began their life together in Telferner, Texas and were blessed with 5 wonderful children, Sharon Elizabeth Nichols (Barry), Elroy Caesar Alex, Jr. (Jannett), William Earl Alex (Rebecca), Pamela Sue Alex, and Lesley Denise Guidry (Chad). He lived most of his life in Victoria County. Elroy was a talented jack-of-all trades and exceptional carpenter by craft. He joyfully helped his community by volunteering as a Little League coach, assisting United Way in numerous projects, and providing endless amounts of vegetables from his “small” garden. He retired from HB Zachry in 1998 and lastly lived in Edna, Texas where he enjoyed fellowship with his church and community family, fishing, visiting the local auction barn, playing bingo, Bar-B-Qing, touring garage sales, and especially spending quality time with his beloved wife of 56 years and rather large family.

Grandchildren – Brandon Nichols (Melissa), Beau Nichols, Elroy Caesar Alex III, Nathan Alex (Sheri), Benjamin Alex, Zachariah Alex, Micah Dell Alex, Sarah Alex Stindt (Clay), Krischelle Alex, Kealeigh Alex, Meagan Alex, Elizabeth Alex, Allysah De Los Santos, Jeremy De Los Santos Jr., Juliet Galvan, and Mave Guidry.

Great-grandchildren – Ashlyn Burkett, Payne Nichols, Makayla Alex, and Lily Alex.

On Sunday, October 28, 2018, at Finch Funeral Chapel – Yorktown, a visitation will be held 1:00–2:30pm, funeral service at 2:30pm, with Rev. David Murff and Rev. Sammie Holder officiating. Burial will follow at Nordheim Cemetery in Nordheim.

Pallbearers will be Elroy Caesar Alex III, Nathan Alex, Benjamin Alex, Zachariah Alex, Brandon Nichols, Beau Nichols, Jeremy De Los Santos Jr.
