Obituary for Lawrence A "Pete" Hummel Jr.

Lawrence A. “Pete” Hummel Jr., 90, a lifelong resident of Stockdale, passed away Monday, October 15, 2018. He was born June 6, 1928, in San Antonio, TX to the late Lawrence Alfred Hummel Sr. and Alma Gladys (Whitten) Hummel. Pete married the love of his life, Verdie Arlene Adcock, in Seguin on January 8, 1965. She preceded him in death. Pete served in the United States Army, was a long time member of the Stockdale Church of Christ and a supporter of 4-H and FFA. He was also a well-known Wilson County farmer and rancher, with a love and talent for producing watermelons, peanuts and raising cattle.

Pete is survived by his daughter, Beverly Hummel; brother, Roy Melvin “Bud” Hummel; sister-in-law, Faye Johnson and husband, Wayne; niece, Shelli Baker and husband, Bob; nephews, Daryl Johnson and wife Debbie, Roy Hummel and Tillman Hummel; niece Pebble Williams and husband, Ken; nephew, Larry Hummel and wife Renee; niece Melody West and husband, Terry; nephew, John Mark Hummel; great-nieces and great-nephews (his “grandkids”), Brandi Baker Whitener and husband Cary, Cooper Johnson and fiancée Beth, Charlee Baker, Logan Baker, Caylynn Johnson; great-great nephew, Kaseton Whitener; Stephanie Seelk, whom he referred to as his 2nd daughter; and numerous other family and friends.

A visitation will be held Thursday, October 18, 2018, from 5:30pm to 8:00pm at the Stockdale Church of Christ. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 at 10:00am, at the Stockdale Church of Christ and officiated by Mr. Kenneth Clapp. Interment will follow at the Stockdale Cemetery.
